They talked until just before midnight,
when Meg checked her watch and stood
up, embarrassed that she'd stayed so late.
Cam assured her he was self-employed
and would not be punching a time clock in
the morning.
He drove her home and walked her to her
door, even though Meg insisted it wasn't
necessary. "As I said before, I'm not that
kind of guy. A lady should always be treated
like a lady."
"Cam, thank you so much for today. It
meant more to me than you can ever
know." Her smile was genuine and
touched him to the core.
Cam reached over and took both her small
hands in his large ones. "You, Meg Reid,
are a beautiful person, inside and out. I'd
really like to see you again, if the feeling is
mutual, of course."
Meg simply nodded. She wouldn't have

Meg simply nodded. She wouldn't have
been able to speak had she wanted to
because somehow she knew he was about
to kiss her. And she also knew, with just
as much certainty, that she would allow it.
Cam leaned forward, brushed a
feather-light kiss on her lips, then stepped
back. "Good night, Meg. Lock your door
as soon as you go in, okay?"
"I will. Goodnight."
While Meg prepared for bed, she thought
back on every detail of her day. She felt
like a princess. If every single thing in her
life from this moment forward went
sideways, she could deal with it because
she couldn't imagine anything ever topping
today.
The phone rang at that precise moment
and she startled. No one had her number,
well, except for Cam, now. And he'd just
left, so it wouldn't be him. Would it?
Meg picked up on the fourth ring.
"Hello?"
"Hello, babe, miss me yet?"
The handset dropped from her hand with a
clatter. Her perfect world had just
crumpled into a million pieces. Rob had
found her!
