Kindle Unlimited: Too Limited!

Hello friends,

Time for a good, old fashioned rant.  I've complained in the past about Amazon's Kindle Select Program whereby readers pay $9.99 monthly for a membership which allows them to read as many Amazon-listed KU e-books as they wish.  That's a great plan...for readers!  For authors, not so much.

In Kindle Select, Amazon pays authors on a per-page basis, a program which is geared toward the customer, but leaves authors wondering why the heck they joined.  Once you agree to join Kindle Select following the publication of a novel, you are locked into the program for a three-month period. Of course, some months are pretty good, as pages are read fairly regularly.  At other times, things are more quiet.  I should mention that whenever I list a novel with Kindle Select, actual Amazon book sales drop drastically, while per-page reading numbers go up.

It's in the quiet times that I usually decide to let my Kindle Select membership lapse and publish my
novels with other online retailers such as Smashwords, Google and D2D.  I usually stay with them for a month or so, then decide to give Amazon's Kindle Select Program one more chance, locking my books in for another three months.

This is a vicious cycle for me and it's driving me crazy!  Every time I lock in with Kindle Select, my sales go bananas with the other retailers, but because I've locked in with Kindle Select, I am required, per the agreement, to pull my books from the other sites!  Well, you get the picture.

So this time, I've dug in my heels.  I have not renewed my Kindle Select agreement (the per-page program) and have instead opted to sell through Amazon's regular sales channel.  I've re-published with Smashwords and D2D, who in turn have listed my novels with Barnes & Noble, Nook, Kobo, Chapters/Indigo, Flipkart, Apple and many more.  My novels will, over the next two weeks, be (once again!) for sale in 53 countries around the world.  No more per-page insanity for me.  At least for the time being!

If you're interested in reading one of my romantic suspense novels, just type my name (Lise Guilbault) in the Search field of your preferred e-book retailer, and my novels will pop up.  Any questions?  Just write me a line at krugers22@gmail.com and I'll be happy to help you out.

I'll keep you posted and, trust me, I'll be sitting on my hands for a while!

Lise
