Thinking of you

This is a short post in which we wish to extend our condolences to the families of those who were killed and injured in the Brussels terrorist attacks.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

My Bee

Hello friends,

This post has absolutely nothing to do with writing...well, almost.  What I did last night will shock those who know me;  Heck, I shocked myself!

Last night, I got a tattoo!  Yes, folks, my very first - and only - tattoo.  The truly great thing is that it was done by my very own daughter, Nat, who is a tattoo artist with The Skin Within in Cornwall, Ontario Canada.  And what a great job she did!

Was it painful, you may ask?  Let  me explain it this way... Because I wanted the tattoo to be hidden from the world, I asked that she do it on top of my foot.  In fairness to Nat, she warned me the top of the foot was just about the most painful area on the body to get tattooed, but I insisted.  Mother knows best, right?  Wrong!  It hurt like the devil.

The reason I chose a bee is because my husband of thirty-eight years has always called me Bee.  In the picture, you'll see the bee is holding a quill.  That was Nat's interpretation of me as an author.

But the pain was definitely worth it and I would do it all over again - if I had to, which I won't!  LOL

Meet Juanita!

Dear readers,

When my husband and I first retired, I started a travel blog titled 'Juanita's Journey,' in which I shared our adventures with other lovers of all things travel.

Following three years on the road, we put our travels on hold in order to renovate our home, but have now decided to once again hit the road starting this fall, end of October 2016 to be precise.  I have therefore re-activated 'Juanita's Journey' and will once again be posting to my travel blog, in addition to 'BookMe1956.'

I  hope you'll join us as we once again kickstart our travels.  To facilitate toggling between my two blogs, I have created a 'Link to Juanita' tab within this blog.  All you need to do is click on the tab and you will be transported to 'Juanita's Journey.'  When you're done catching up on our travel news, simply click on the 'Link to BookMe1956' and you'll be taken right back to this blog.  Easy peasy!

Enjoy your day, and remember to read a book!

Here's what I think...

Hello friends,

Recently, I read a blog post by a moderately well-known author who, for the purposes of this post, shall remain nameless.  (In truth, I really don't want to give her recognition by naming her!)  This author ranted about all the 'wannabe' writers out there who self-publish novels and who, according to her, are horrible writers.  She actually seemed insulted by the thought that anyone would actually go the distance if they'd not been picked up by a traditional publisher.

Well, not to put too fine a point on it, but who is she - or anyone else for that matter - to turn her nose up at those who aspire to become a published writer and who can now, thanks to the world of self-

Rewrites are a pain!

Hello friends,

The end of another weekend is upon us, although as a retiree, I can't say it makes much difference to me.  (Sorry, couldn't help adding that!)

Today, I spent a couple hours working on my current novel, "A Kindness Returned."  This is my fifth romantic suspense and I must say, the most frustrating so far.

As an author, my mind is constantly conjuring up stories, twists and turns in plots, finding new ways to hurt someone, deciding how to kill off a character...  After a bit, the story usually settles

Decisions, Decisions...

Dear readers,

On this sunny, but very cold, Canadian winter day, I've been working on my current novel, most likely to be titled "A Kindness Returned."  The one thing I never have a difficult time with is the cover, but in this case it's been a nightmare.

I mean if your book deals with love, your cover could portray lovers kissing, or a man and woman posed in a sexually suggestive scene.  But how do you portray kindness?

At first, I considered a picture of two hands, one reaching out to the other.  Then I scratched that.
