What is YOUR preference?

As an author, I enjoy polling readers on what they prefer when looking for a good book.  I have noticed, in perusing book stores, how many series are out there for the taking.  Personally, I enjoy series for the simple reason that I often do not want to see the characters go when I reach the end of a story.  With a series, even if the characters you like fade into the background in Book 2 or 3, they are still there, like a family member you may visit only every once in a while.
